A niche online shop from the toy industry is for sale. Selected, high-quality wooden toys have been offered here since 2020. The products are sourced exclusively from suppliers in Germany (approx. 2/3 of the products) or the EU.
Current situation:
The shop is based on the CMS Shopify and was created by the former owner and runs as an annual subscription model with the Basic Shopify tariff. The billing cycle is extended in July so that the shop has already been paid for by Q2/2024.
The categorie and product texts were completely revised by us within the last year and optimised for SEO, the product images were taken over by the suppliers. The shop was operated as a side project, so unfortunately only limited capacities were available. Due to our own expertise as an SEO agency, the shop was initially explicitly further developed in this area and has recorded an increase in visibility of more than 450% since the start of optimisation in April 2023 (as of 08.04.2024).
In 2023, with an average order value of EUR 47.78, total sales of around EUR 7,150.00 were achieved (note: no social media, no Google Ads/shopping, no email marketing, no Amazon), but the conversion rate of the online shop was only 0.34%.
With the appropriate continuation of shop optimisation - especially for usability & conversions - and the achievement of a market-standard average conversion rate of 2%, an annual turnover of more than EUR 30,000 is initially realistic with the current organic traffic.
Product costing & suppliers:
The storage of products and the dispatch of orders are currently handled by a fulfilment service provider. The existing contract for the cooperation is still valid, but we recommend a change for the continuation due to a very strong increase in cost structures. Orders for goods are limited to 4-5 suppliers, mainly from Germany. The average margin of active products with stock is 32.5% after deduction of all shop costs.
Marketing and future:
The average order value is currently €47.78. By expanding the product range and integrating special offers and cross-selling variants into the shop, the average order value can be further increased in the long term. The marketing of the shop, especially via Google Shopping and social media, has had to be neglected due to limited personnel resources, but promises high marketing potential, especially through target group-oriented and image-affine channels such as Pinterest or Instagram.
The shop already has a presence on Instagram and Facebook, but as already mentioned, these were neglected last year. If desired, the "Spielspecht" brand can be registered with the DPMA during the transfer (the seller bears the corresponding costs and effort), thus ensuring the basis for the Amazon sales channel.
